The Lake House
The Great Southern region, between Walpole and Albany on the WA south coast, is fast developing a reputation for its excellent wines and gourmet food produce. The Lake House, a winery and restaurant set lakeside in peaceful gardens on the slopes of Mt. Shadforth just outside of Denmark, is like a showcase of everything the region has to offer food-wise. Lunches take the form of Mediterranean themed platters of local meats and salads, all accompanied by the house range of locally made gourmet condiments. At the cellar door you can choose which of The Lake House's range of estate grown, hand crafted wines you will have with lunch as your meal is being prepared. The range of sauces, chutneys and relishes which make the meals so special, are available for purchase, along with a range of indulgences for bath time.

The Old Block Cafe
The NE Victorian town of Glenrowan is famous as the place where bushranger Ned Kelly was captured, but beyond the histioric township towards the Warby Ranges, where the Kelly gang used to hide out, as a number of fine winerys. One of the oldest - Baileys of Glenrowan - was founded in 1870, ten years before Kelly met their fate at the village. Richard Bailey established his winery and a store alongside the famous Anne Jones Inn where the Kelly gang siege was to take place, to supply miners on nearby goldfields.
Today the Baileys winery is a boutique operation that showcases the best of both worlds, with modern winemaking facilities complemented by traditional techniques and very old vines. Luscious, leisurely lunches are served daily at the Old Block Cafe. Their wood-fired oven, which was painstakingly built by local craftsmen, is a showpiece and is used to create a delicious range of slow-cooked food.
