Australia's Top 10 Wine Festivals

1. Tastes of Rutherglen

Location: Rutherglen, Vic. Date: week-long event commencing Labor Day long weekend in March
Rutherglen wineries, restaurants and regional producers get together to put on a Food and Wine extravaganza not to be missed. If you enjoy great food, great wine, live music and loads of fun, then head along as this is one of Australia's better gourmet Festivals.

2. Barossa Vintage Festival

Location: Barossa Valley, SA. Date: April
A celebration of the wines of the Barossa Valley, Australia's oldest and most well known wine producing regions. The Festival kicks off with a Carnival at Seppeltsfield Winery, which is followed by a week-long series of events centred around the Easter weekend.

3. Margaret River Wine Region Festival

Margaret River, WA. Date: April
A four day event to savour the local produce including up to 200 wines. Watch out for the Wine Barrel Races at the Vintage Vibe Street Fiesta which kicks off the event.

4. Grampians Grape Escape

Location: Halls Gap, Vic. Date: May
Featuring the fruits of the Western Victorian wineries, this food and wine festival is a gastronomic getaway to delicious gourmet fare, great local wines, creative cooking demonstrations and a festival dinner. With more than 80 vendors, live music and children's entertainment all set against the spectacular backdrop of the Grampians National Park, it’s a sensational weekend.

5. Heathcote Wine Festival

Location: Heathcote, Vic. Date: October long weekend
Synonymous with great wines, especially Shiraz, Heathcote in Central Victoria is an emerging premium wine region. The Festival has become a must do event for wine and food lovers alike. The Festival presents over 40 Heathcote wine producers - tasting and selling some 150 wines along with around 30 food and produce exhibitors from Heathcote and beyond.

6. Grape Grazing Festival

Yarra Valley, Vic. Date: April
A two day celebration of the wines and food of the Yarra Valley region. Ideal for the wine and food enthusiasts, it's a time of intimate tastings of fine wines from the 32 local producers and the opportunity to meet the passionate proprietors and learn about their wines.

7. Brisbane Fine Wine Festival

Location: Brisbane, Qld. Date: June
A 3-day celebration of some of the best wines Australia has to offer. The festival features fine wines and food from all over Australia, as well as some highly regarded imported wines. In excess of 600 wines from wine regions around Australia are represented.

8. Melbourne Food and Wine Festival

Location: Melbourne, Vic. Date: March
An entirely non-profit annual event showcasing produce, talent, and lifestyle of Melbourne. The Festival encompasses more than 120 events over a 10-day period. The most popular event is the World's Longest Lunch, a sit-down alfresco meal attended by over 1000 diners and stretching over 500 metres of tables.

9. A Taste of Slow Australia

Location: Victoria. Date: April/May (even numbered years)
A celebration of everything that isn't fast food (hence the name), it's a biennial event held across Victoria. A Taste of Slow celebrates local, seasonal produce and the restoration of time-honoured food production and preparation methods, informs people about the ethical implications of food choice, and encourages the sharing of food at convivial tables.

10. Tasting Australia

Location: Adelaide, SA. Date: April/May (even numbered years)
A major event on Australia's food festival calendar, held every two years in the city that first introduced Australia to good food and wine. The festival showcases the very best that our nation has to offer in food, wine, beer and produce. A coming together of everybody who's anybody in the food and wine business, the festival includes the Food, Beer and Wine Writers Festival and the World Food Media Awards.
