Destinations: GOURMET PRODUCE

There are few better experiences when travelling by road than to come across a farmhouse, cottage or roadside stall where local gourmet produce is sold, and to stop and sample the wares. Strawberry jam made by the person behind the counter from strawberries grown on their farm always seems to taste infinitely better than any jam produced on a factory production line. Chances are you'll come across a fruit or vague combination of jam, sauce or chutney that you've never heard of before that will get your taste buds dancing with delight.
During our various treks around Australia, we always allow around an hour or so each day of travel to visit such places. It's a fun way to break up a long journey and a wonderful opportunity to sample some exceptional home-made produce unique to the region you are travelling through.
Everything
from jams, preserves and condiments to hand-made ice creams and locally brewed drinks are available, so there's always something for everyone. We always buy something to take home that is not readily available at home, or passed our taste test with flying colours. We also often buy these gourmet goodies as souvenirs of our trip away, and use them either as gifts for friends, or when the produce is consumed at a later date, to remember the trip and the places we visited on it.
