Gourmet experiences: NORTHERN TERRITORY

Unique gourmet produce

Mango Preserves
Mangoes thrive in the tropical climate of the Top End so it is only natural that the products made from mangoes are at the top of the list when it comes to Northern Territory gourmet produce. The Daly River Mango Farm is an established tourist park located 230 kilometres from Darwin on the west bank of the Daly River. The Farm has some of the oldest mango trees in the Territory, after the main pick has occurred some of the excess mangoes are used to produce jams, chutneys and sauces which are then available for sale the following tourist season. The tourist park is a terrific place to relax, offering accommodation, caravan and camping grounds under a shade canopy created by a grove of huge 90 year old mango trees.

Mango Mist

Red Centre Farm is located on the Stuart Highway, 180 kilometres north of Alice Springs. It was established in 1988, carved out of the bush and mango trees planted to supply fruit to Alice Springs. The farm sells a range of mango products from jam to hot or sweet chutneys, dessert topping, marinade sauce, mineral water and frozen mango pieces.
There is also a popular range of mango wines and liqueur for sale. Mango Mist is a sparkling wine complementing both seafood and Asian style meals. It is also an ideal accompaniment to most dessert courses, as well as being an excellent celebratory drink for all occasions.
As its name implies, Mango Moonshine is a fortified mango liqueur.  Excellent with dessert courses and a great after-dinner wine. Mango Magic is a still wine with crisp acidity.  It is ideal as an accompaniment to white meat and seafood dishes. There is a small charge for wine tastings.

Your Experiences ...

Has there been a gourmet food supplier you have visited whose produce you have found to be totally yummy? If so, we'd love to hear from you. Tell us a little about the product and the place when you came across it. You can either write the review yourself (feel free to send pics of the product), or simply advise us of the product and its manufacturer and we'll follow it up ourselves.
Our preference is for unique products that are not available at regular outlets across Australia, particularly those which are either unique to their locality or are made with ingredients unique to their locality.
