Wauchope

A service town and gateway for visitors to The Devils Marbles (2 km south). The settlement was established to service the mining communities in the area (wolfram was mined to the east of the town) as well as the Barkly Tablelands cattle industry. Today there no evidence of the wolfram mining which took place in the area, and even the local tour operators don't know if there are any ruins.

Location: 114 km south of Tennant Creek; 390 km from Alice Springs; 1092 km south of Darwin.

Places of interest: The Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve (Karlu Karlu) (1828 ha, 10 km north); Wycliffe Creek; Murchison Range; Davenport Ranges National Park (proposed); Wycliffe Well.
