Armadale


Located just 40 minutes South East of the centre of Perth, nestled amongst scenic parks, undulating hills and picturesque valleys, with cultural heritage and a unique community feel - is the modern City of Armadale. It is located on the south-eastern edge of Perth's metropolitan area at the major junction of the South Western and Albany Highways, which connect Perth with the South West and Great Southern regions of Western Australia respectively. It is also the terminus of the Armadale railway line, one of five major railway lines to service Perth.

Minnawarra Historic Precinct


A geographically linked series of folk history museums in the Armadale area on Perth's southern outskirts. A series of developments in the 1970s that have became a unique history-based attraction. The Minnawarra Park complex comprises of an old school, the very first church in Armadale, and the History House Municipal Museum. The displays material pertaining to the economic, social and cultural history of Western Australia and the city of Armadale in particular. Nearby Elizabethan Village is a recreation of two English Elizabethan era homes (see separate entry); Pioneer World is a recreation of an Australian pioneer village. Free entry.

History House Museum


History House Museum has a number of permanent, temporary and online exhibitions available. Each exhibition examines a different aspect of life in the district including farming, domestic life, local government, early settlement and Nyoongar traditional culture.

Open Tues-Fri 10am-4pm. Weekends 1pm-4pm

History House Museum is open on most public holidays except Good Friday, Easter Monday and Christmas Day. Public holiday opening hours are 1pm-4pm

Elizabethan Village


A recreation of of Shakespeare's Birthplace and Anne Hathaway's Cottage. Extensive English-style gardens surround this meticulously accurate recreation of two iconic British buildings. The gardens around Anne Hathaway's cottage are open to the public, however the two buildings provide bed and breakfast accommodation. The complex also includes an olde English-style pub, restaurant and cafe. The complex is a popular venue for weddings. Adding the nearby History House Municipal Museum and Pioneer World to your itinerary makes for an interesting history-themed day out in the Armadale area.

Armadale Outpost Telegraph Museum


The Armadale Outpost Telegraph Museum houses a unique collection of communication equipment dating from the late 1800's. The collection includes telegraph equipment, typewriters, phones and a replica of the first post mistresses uniform.

Members of the Morsecodian Society of Western Australia come in every Tuesday from 10am - 12pm to demonstrate morse code. For a small donation, you can send a message to friends and family any where in the world. These messages are a great gift idea for a special occasions such as birthdays and wedding anniversaries.

Bert Tyler Vintage Machinery Museum


The Bert Tyler Vintage Machinery Museum has a collection of lovingly restored machinery and household items. The Museum also houses a fully restored 1910 Hornsby petrol engine, a Furphy Tank, a 6ft "Baby" Model Windmall and a Horword Bagshaw "Imperial" Hay Baler amongst others. School and tour groups are welcome.

Serpentine Dam and Falls


A series of dams and a pretty waterfall down stream, situated to the south of Perth. Serpentine Dam was built in the boom years of the 1960s as a major water supply for the City of Perth which, at the time, was undergoing rapid expansion. The area surrounding the dam has been carefully landscaped to create a large and popular barbecue and picnic area. Several walking trails through the surrounding bushland lead to scenic lookouts.



Serpentine Falls has a large natural swimming pool at its base. Kittys Gorge walking trail starts at the falls; it offers extensive valley views and passes through a small picturesque stand of virgin jarrah forest. Park entry fees applies.

Cohunu Koala Park


A native animal park set in natural bushland, in the southern Perth suburb of Kelmscott. The park has proved popular with overseas visitors as it displays a wide array of native and introduced fauna, including wombats, parrots, dingoes, kangaroos, emus, deer and koalas, as well as a bird aviary in which hand feeding of 20 species of native birds is encouraged. Visitors are fee to walk among and hand feed the wallabies and kangaroos. Daily koala holding photographic sessions are popular. Entry fee applies.

Araluen Botanical Park


Popular in spring for its tulips and other magnificent spring blooms, Araluen Sanctuary comprises a tranquil botanic garden of both natural and developed beauty, providing four seasons of relaxing activity that holds great attraction for weddings, photography, bird-watching and family get-togethers. Whatever time you visit Araluen, you will find the streams flowing, plenty of grassy areas on which to enjoy a barbeque or picnic and many delightful bush walks.

Bungendore Park


Located on the western edge of the Darling Scarp and with a wide variety of vegetation, Bungendore Park is a unique place to visit. Most of the park is Jarrah-Marri forest with an abundance of understorey shrubs and orchids. Also located in the park are rare Red Tailed Black Cockatoos. Bungedore Park has signposted walk trails which vary in length, some with views across the Swan Coastal Plain. Please keep to the trail and respect the local flora and fauna.

Armadale Reptile Centre

Armadale Reptile Centre is home to an amazing variety of native reptiles and other Australian wildlife. Over 400 animals, compirsed of 50 dirrerent species of reptiles, 10 species of mammals and 18 species of birds are on display. Open Daily 10am - 4pm.
