Perth City Farm

Perth City Farm is a working farm in the middle of the city. It is an oasis in a concrete jungle; where people come to learn, grow food, eat and drink, attend the weekend farmers market. Perth City Farm also host events like art exhibitions, weddings, workshops and public meetings. The team at Perth City Farm promote both sustainability and community by facilitating educational programs for kids. The facilities include a mushroom farm, bio-intensive garden and greenwall, cafe, aquaponics, organic garden, large composting facilities, nursery, community space, story telling corner and who could forget the chickens.

The site was acquired in 1994 by Planetary Action Network (a youth branch of Men of the Trees) from the East Perth Redevelopment Authority on a six month lease.

Historically, it was an industrial waste site; a train-recycling yard, a battery-recycling centre and a scrap metal yard. The soil was heavily polluted with oil, heavy metals and covered in industrial rubbish. The farm has since been rehabilitated and become organic certified.

Now holding a 40 year lease its an institution and incubator for urban sustainability. The farm is a beautiful place to come, relax and reconnect to the land.
