This popular retirement and summer holiday destination is a hive of activity during the warmer weather; otherwise it is a quiet village. The town hosts the Inverloch Fun Festival (Australia Day weekend) and Inverloch Jazz Festival (Labour Day Weekend. Location: 13 km east of Wonthaggi; 143 km south-east of Melbourne on the Bass Highway. Origin of name: the name is of Gaelic origin and means 'meeting of waters'. Brief history: this area was opened for selection in the 1870s and from the early 1900s grew as a seaport through which the black coal from the Powlett River coalfields around Wonthaggi was transported to Melbourne.
