LAKE BOLAC, VICTORIA


Lake Bolac, after which the town is named, is popular for yachting, windsurfing and and angling on the trail of the eels, trout, yellow-belly, redfin and perch. The spectacular Grampians National Park is 60km to the north.
Location: 100 km west of Ballarat on the
Glenelg Highway and 211 km north-west of Melbourne Map
Origin of name
: takes it name from the adjoining, 1460ha, freshwater lake, It is the Aboriginal name for the lake.
Brief history: the town came into existence in the 1850s. 'Narrapumulap', a gracious and beautiful French Gothic homestead, was built 1873-1878.
