Yallingup Beach

YALLINGUP, WESTERN AUSTRALIA


A small community which sprang up after World War II around its popular surf beaches. It continues to rely on its surfing community for its survival though tourism to its limestone caves and the wine region to the south has boosted its economy. Yallingup is home to a number of wineries at the northern end of the Margaret River wine region.
Location: 263 km south of Perth.
Origin of name
: of Aboriginal origin, reported to mean "place of love". The town takes it's name from a nearby cave of that name discovered in 1899 by Edward Dawson.
