South West of Western Australia: Discovery Trails


Busselton: one of the most popular holiday destinations in rural Western Australia and a premier seaside resort and coastal playground, Busselton has been awarded Top Tourism Town status in the State on numerous occasions.


Bunbury: the second largest city (after Mandurah) in Western Australia outside the metropolitan area of Perth, Bunbury is the gateway to the state's south-west region.


Augusta: The third oldest settlement in Western Australia, Augusta is a small tourist town at the southern extremity of western Australia's south west region near Cape Leeuwin.


Pemberton: a small timber milling town, Pemberton is in to the heart of Karri country. There are plenty of places to see and activities to embark upon in and around the town.


Yallingup: a small community which sprang up after World War II around its popular surf beaches. It continues to rely on its surfing community for its survival though tourism, its limestone caves and the wine region to the south has boosted its economy.

Waterfalls of the south-west: the forests of the state's south-west are home to a collection of pretty waterfalls.


Cape to Cape Walking Track: an extensive yet easy-to-traverse walk along the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge between the lighthouses of Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin in the far south west of Western Australia. 


Boranup Beach and Forest: Boranup lies within the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park between Caves Road and the coast, and creates a powerful contrast with the rest of the coastline. Tall pale-barked karri trees, reaching 60 metres or more high, dominate the hilly slopes and valleys.


Blackwood River Valley: nestled amongst the hills on the banks of the Blackwood River surrounded by tall forests, wonderful scenic drives, the towns of Bridgetown, Boyup Brook, Darkan, Nannup and Balingup are popular destinations in this picturesque inland region.

South-West drive: travel through a holiday destination known and loved by West Aussies for decades. The beauty of the south-west corner of Australia only came to the attention of the rest of the country with the development of the Margaret River wine region in the 1980s.


Bibbulmun Track: one of the world's great long distance walk trails, it covers nearly 1000kms from Kalamunda on the eastern outskirts of Perth to Albany via the heart of the scenic South West of Western Australia.


Northcliff: a small timber town in the heart of the Karri forests of the south-west, Northcliff is a short drive from the sceenic coast of Point. D'Entrecasteaux.


Dunsborough: a small fishing and retirement community on Geographe Bay, which has become a popular resort town. The bay is a haven of secluded coves and coastal walking trails where you can watch bottlenose dolphins play in turquoise water.


Thrombolites of Lake Clifton: the most common form of microbialites, thrombolites are literally 'living rocks'. One of the few places in the world where the thrombolites grow is at Lake Clifton in Western Australia's Yalgorup National Park.
