Western Australia

Aviation Heritage Museum: the museum of the Royal Australian Air Force Association. The collection comprises 32 aeroplanes and 34 engines on display as well as an extensive range of other material including flying costumes, uniforms, instruments, radio equipment, models, trophies, awards and medals and photographs. Entry fee applies.

New South Wales

Narromine Aviation Museum: an exhibition of artifacts, documents and photographs which tell the story of aviation as it unfolded on one of Australia ’s most historic aerodromes. During the Second World War, the aerodrome was upgraded to host firstly a large RAAF flying school, and in 1945 a unique RAF Mosquito bomber squadron. The post-war years saw Qantas conduct much of its pilot training there, as well as using the aerodrome as an alternative to Sydney’s Mascot for international flights.
The sport of gliding, too, has roots at Narromine which go back to the 1940s. Today, the region is considered to be among the world’s best soaring sites. Location: Narromine Aerodrome, Trangie Road near Narromine, NSW

Home to a wide range of aircraft and aviation artifacts, many aircraft in fact were manufactured at Bankstown Airport, including Tiger Moths, Mosquito Bombers, Drovers and Vampires. Included are a number of rare aircraft, such as the world's only Fawcett 120 (also manufactured at Bankstown) and a Harley Newman Gyrocopter which has never flown. Artifacts include a complete Radio Set from a Lancaster Bomber, Navigational Sextants, a Drift Sight from a Beaufighter, Silk Aircrew Tropical Escape Maps, a unique Trouser Button Compass and a number of historic military and commercial aviation uniforms. A unique item is a Leather Flying Coat once worn by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith.


Temora Aviation Museum: Temora has a rich and noteworthy aviation history having been home to the No. 10 Elementary Flying Training School (10 EFTS) set up by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in May 1941. No 10 EFTS was the largest and longest lived of the flying schools established under the Empire Air Training Scheme during World War Two (WWII). When Sydney businessman David Lowy expressed interest in establishing an aviation museum dedicated to aircraft and pilots who had defended Australia, Temora Aerodrome was chosen as it is rich in aviation history and has uncontrolled air space below 20,000 feet. The museum's collection includes 15 fully operational aircraft which fly on flying days (visit the museum's website for the next flying day).

Camden Museum of Aviation: The Camden Museum of Aviation is one of the largest privately owned collections of military aircraft in the southern hemisphere with 22 aircraft, 200 engines and other military items on display. The RAAF, Army Aviation and Fleet Air Arm collection has been restored wherever possible to taxiable, non flyable, standard. The Museum is will be temporarily closed for maintenance until further notice.

RAN Fleet Air Arm Museum: Developed from a small collection of naval aviation relics and five obsolete RAN aircraft by a very energetic team of Navy volunteers originally established in 1974, the museum has grown to be the largest regional museum and the largest aviation museum now containing over 25 aircraft and numerous aviation artifacts to relay the story of Naval Aviation and the development of the Royal Australian Navy's Fleet Air Arm.

Armadillo Area Nautica Museum: The museum contains an extensive collection of aeronautical items: aircraft engines, a paratroop scooter, Air Force flying and survival articles, badges, insignia and medals from all countries and time periods. The museum also has many uniforms and items of equipment - cameras, compasses, aircraft instrument panels, models of aircraft, ships and tanks, and radio and photographic articles.

Luskintyre Aviation Flying Museum: the property has five hangars including Ray Windred's hangar which contains many smaller vintage aircraft under construction, including Tiger Moths. Luskintyre Airfield is a 228 acre privately owned airfield near Newcastle in the Hunter Valley, NSW.
South Australia

South Australian Aviation Museum: accredited by the History Trust of South Australia, the museum features Engine Displays; numerous Restored Aircraft including a Westland Wessex helicopter, a Douglas C-47B Dakota and a English Electric Canberra WK 165, Floor Displays; Woomera Rocket Collection; Aircraft in the process of restoration; Audio Visual Presentations.

Classic Jets Fighter Museum: an impressive array of jet fighters and historic aviation artefacts. The people who run this place are all aircraft enthusiasts, and it shows in the friendly care and attention given to visitors. Here you can get up close and personal with all kinds of aircraft in various states of repair and restoration. Well worth a visit if you have any interest in things mechanical. Entry fees apply.

Victoria

The Australian National Aviation Museum: this museum is recognised by many as Australia’s only true National Aviation Museum. Owned and operated by the Australian Aircraft Restoration Group, the collection was established in 1962, the permanent museum opened in 1964 and is the oldest volunteer Aviation Museum in Australia. The museum is home to a number of significant examples of Australia's aviation heritage, and with nearly 50 aircraft on display, in storage or under restoration, and over 20 engines on display, is one of the largest aviation museums in Australia.

Victoria

2 OTU RAAF Air Museum: the museum is operated by the Mildura Branch of the RAAF Association. It is in the premises previously used by No. 2 Operational Training Unit (2 OTU). The Museum is managed and staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers. It is planned to develop a picnic area near the Museum and to source static displays of aircraft that served on the Mildura air  base during WW2. These include P40 Kittyhawks, CAC Boomerangs and Wirraways, Spitfires and P-51 Mustangs.

RAAF Museum, Pt. Cook: The RAAF Museum is home to Australia's largest collection of memorabilia and aircraft relating to the rich history of the Australian Flying Corps and the Royal Australian Air Force. Browse through the Museum's state of the art heritage gallery and see flying demonstrations hosted by our pilots. You can also go behind the scenes and see our restoration experts at work.
Flying demonstrations operate regularly (weather permitting) as part of the Interactive Flying Program each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 1:00pm (excluding the period from mid December to mid January). Location: RAAF Museum, RAAF Base Williams, Point Cook Road, Point Cook, Vic.


Ballarat Aviation Museum: home to a unique collection of flying aircraft, engines, wartime relics and equipment from the 1920's to the Present Day. The collection includes the amazing AA107 Swing Wing Fighter that was to have been developed.

Sir Reginald Ansett Transport Museum: a tribute to entrepreneur and transport and tourism pioneer, Sir Reginald Ansett, who hailed from Hamilton. The museum contains historical information about Ansett and on the former Ansett transport empire he established. It is housed in Ansett Airways' first aircraft hangar.

Queensland

Museum of Australian Army Flying: the Australian Army entered the military aviation field after WWII and since that time, has served in every post war campaign, gaining an enviable reputation. The Museum’s memorabilia includes aircraft, engines, uniforms, history of the Oakey Airfield, photographs and memoirs of Army Aviation servicemen.

Queensland Air Museum: The Queensland Air Museum is the largest aviation museum in Queensland museum with over 50 aircraft, along with aero engines and aeronautical memorabilia on display. Nothing in the QAM collection is owned by an individual member; the entire collection is deemed to be held in trust for the community. Finalist Queensland Tourism Awards 1994-2001 and winner Outstanding Excellence in Tourism 1997.

Warbirds Adventures Museum: a unique adventure experience located in the the Atherton Tablelands just south of Mareeba in Tropical North Queensland. Each display and operating warbird - all are legendary aircraft of World War II - has been painstakingly restored to its original condition without compromise. The Museum and Hangar features our extensive collection of ex-military aircraft from around the world as well as wartime history and aircraft information. Warbird flights are available.

Caboolture Warplane Museum: The museum was established to present and preserve part of the nation's history with a focus on WW11 aircraft. Its aircraft have been restored to flying condition and perform regularly in air shows and aviation events around the country. The collection consists of consist of: P51D Mustang, CAC Wirraway, CAC Wirraway, CAC Winjeel, Nieuport 17

Qantas Founders Museum: situated at the very spot where Qantas flew its first aircraft, Qantas Founders Museum is the only place in the world where you can tour two fully equipped passenger jet aircraft. The ex-Qantas 747-200 VH-EBQ is permanently located at the Museum and is open for guided tours including a unique wing walk experience. With some roof, wall and floor panels removed the tour gives an informative insight into the secrets of this magnificent aircraft. A Boeing 707, a Catalina flying boat and a DC3, all former Qantas fleet members, are also on display.

Hinkler Hall of Aviation: more than a museum, the Hinkler Hall of Aviation celebrates pioneer solo aviator Bert Hinkler and the wonders of innovation, spirit and adventure. The museum comprises of an exhibition hall, featuring multi-media exhibits, a flight simulator, the ‘Globe Theatre’, five aircraft and the historic Hinkler House, home of Bert Hinkler, all set in the tropical surrounds of the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens.

Northern Territory

Australian Aviation Heritage Centre: aviation museum which features the Japanese bombing of Darwin in 1942. The Northern Territory has always played a strategic role in the aerial defence of Australia, so it is appropriate that Darwin should be home to a museum depicting the Territory's involvement in Australian aviation, both civil and military. Among its extensive collection on display is the wreckage of a Japanese Zero fighter plane, a remnant from Darwin's attack in 1942, while other exhibits include a WWII Spitfire, a B52 bomber, a Wessex helicopter and the 'Bombing of Darwin' display. Entry fees apply.

Central Australian Aviation Museum: The museum is housed in the historic Connellan Airways hangar at Araluen, the original town aerodrome, adjacent to the then home of pioneer aviator Eddie 'EJ'. Connellan. The museum traces the history of aviation in Central Australia and the Northern Territory since the first De Havilland DH6 landed here in October 1921. Displays include a Royal Flying Doctor Service Drover Aircraft, a Wackett trainer aircraft, a Dove twin engine aircraft, a DC3, an Australian built Kookaburra glider, a Derwent jet engine, a Rolls Royce Merlin engine, historic photographs and memorabilia, an original Traeger Pedal Radio used by the Royal Flying Doctor Service, transceivers and many other items of interest.
