North Stradbroke Island: affectionately referred to as "Straddie", the elongated sand island of North Stradbroke shields much of the southern part of Moreton Bay and the smaller islands from the ocean swells. The permanent population the island is quite small, but the number of people on the island swells significantly during the holiday season.

Coochiemudlo Island: big enough to have permanent residents, Coochiemudlo enjoys a quiet, laidback atmosphere that draws locals and visitors alike to its shores. Like all the Moreton Bay islands, the waters surrounding Coochiemudlo could be described as an aquatic playground, attracting windsurfers, swimmers and sailors of all kinds. Dolphins, dugongs and turtles are often seen in the shallow waters near the beach.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary: The world's first and largest koala sanctuary, with over 130 koalas, some of which can be held for photographs. Other wildlife includes free range kangaroos. The Sanctuary is located at Fig Tree Pocket. There are regular buses to and from Lone Pine operated by the Brisbane City Council. Mt. Coot-Tha: there are expansive views over the city of Brisbane from this well known locality. Features lookout, botanical gardens, planetarium, Summit bar and restaurant, television towers, Gap Creek Reserve and Mt. Coot-tha Forest walking tracks, mountain bike trails, orienteering. 287 metres above sea level.
Bus No. 471 leaves from corner of Adelaide and Albert Streets between 9.15am and 3.15pm

The entrance to Brisbane Forest Park is located in the Brisbane suburb of The Gap. Australian wildlife on display at the Walk-About Wildlife Centre includes several species of Australian native birds, a Platypus, Sugar Glider, Wallabies, Pademelons, Wombat, Yellow-bellied Glider, Spotted Quoll, Brush-tailed Phascogale, Snakes, Lizards, Turtles and various species of fish (including Lungfish).
