Embarking on one of Melbourne's arts walks or tours or exploring its laneways is a great way to get to know the city. Take the "Art from the City Circle" tram ride, or walk through city streets, laneways, and squares and along the Yarra River to experience the city's public artworks.
Coastal Art Trail: celebrates the lives and work of the many notable Australian artists who have painted the coast in years past. It features more than 50 artworks on 38 signboards along 17 kilometres of coastline. Walk, bicycle ride or skate along Port Phillip Bay from Brighton to Beaumaris.

A ride on the free City Circle Tram is a good way to catch a glimpse of this rich exhibition of sculpture, signs and architecture. Swanston Street Art Walk: spans Melbourne's civic spine and is dedicated to contemporary sculpture. The walk begins in Flinders Street at Federation Square, winds its way past contemporary art placed along Swanston Street and Bourke Street Mall, and continues to the controversial art-as-architecture buildings of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology near La Trobe Street. Copies of the Art Walk brochure can be collected free of charge from the Visitor Information Centre at Federation Square.
Yarra River Art Walk: winds through the heart of the city, providing the backdrop for a vibrant outdoor contemporary art gallery. Basking on the foreshore and sheltering beside buildings along the river, are works of art that surprise and delight. This walk takes you past sculpture, paintings, architecture and a 'soundscape' that allows you to temporarily escape the noise of the city, as well as spectacular views of the city. Copies of the Art Walk brochure can be collected free of charge from the Visitor Information Centre at Federation Square.
Williamstown Self Guided Walks: While in Williamstown take one of the self-guided Heritage Walks. The three walks can be taken separately or together and take you through some of the most picturesque corners of this historic seaport.
